Me and trout
Mikkeli is a great place for a fly-fisherman, especially a time-restricted one. Most of the larger rapids are accessible easily by car and Mikkeli itself isonly some two hours´ driving away from Helsinki. The town is a busy and beautifulplace during summers and some rapids offer reasonable fishing also during(warmer) winters, when the town becomes cold and dreary.
Some nice rapids:

- Kaivannonkoski(koski=rapids) - much water, difficult, sometimes very big trout. Crowded.
- Miekankoski - easiest to reach, sometimes too crowded.
- Puuskankoski - run by Mikkelin Koskikalastajat (Rapids-fishermen of Mikkeli?) a verynice and "trouty" stream, but not open for everyone (Clubmembers and Guests).
- Pyhäkoski - very good, easy to reach, not too crowded!
- Ripattikoski - the surest place to catch a wild trout in the region. Notso easy to reach. The best part used exclusively by a executives, owners and guests of a power-company, but the lesser parts yield plenty and usuallythere is total privacy (no other people around)!
- Siikakoski - easy to reach, best in the early spring.
